Meet Our Staff: The Smiths

Chuck and Naomi Smith are some of our many staff members who were missionaries in a tribe and then joined the staff here. The tribe they were in was located in Paraguay. They were there for twelve years, and now they’ve been serving here at the Bible school for over twelve years. They both enjoy their various roles here and pouring into the lives of students.

Where are you from originally?
Chuck: Hawthorne, NJ.
Naomi: Franklin, NJ.

What’s your role at Ethnos360 Bible Institute?
Chuck: Registrar in the Education Office, as well as teaching a few classes.
Naomi: Education Secretary.

What is your favorite thing about serving at Ethnos360 Bible Institute?
Chuck: The fact that God can use anyone who is willing to trust Him to be used in ways you never thought.
Naomi: Being able to speak into the lives of the students and be a source of encouragement.

What is something the student body might not know about you?
Chuck: I served in the kitchen at EBI for almost five years, two of those as the head cook.
Naomi: I drove a school bus for nine years.

At what point in your life were you convinced to become involved with missions?
We were serving at a church in upstate New York, where Chuck was the youth pastor. During that time, a friend of ours and his family had moved to Paraguay to serve as missionaries with Ethnos. They would send videotapes back to their family, who then passed them along to us. As we watched those videos, we realized that God uses ordinary people—and that He could use us too.

Where’s your favorite place to eat or thing to do here around Waukesha?
As for a place to eat… Anywhere that serves a good burger is a win!

As for pastimes… We love hiking at the many state and county parks around here. Also, Chuck is a runner!

Do you have a “hero of the faith” that you admire, and if so, what about them is inspiring?
Chuck: One of my favorite heroes of faith is Hudson Taylor. A simple man who said, “All God’s giants have been weak men who did great things for God because they counted on God being with them.”
Naomi: Corrie ten Boom. For her courage to stand up for what was right no matter the cost and her forgiveness in the face of unimaginable suffering.

Who is your favorite author or musician?
Chuck: I really like Crawford Loritts, Jerry Bridges, and Charlie Bing.
Naomi: My favorite author is Jen Wikins.

Where is your favorite place to spend time?
Chuck: I really enjoy spending time with family!
Naomi: I love planning activities with my grandkids. There’s so many fun things to do with kids around this area and many of them are free.
