Meet Our Staff: The Deeds
Our staff here is incredibly intentional, and I’m not just talking about the deans who regularly meet with students. Even our kitchen staff pours into our students when they’re not busy feeding them. Roger and Lana Deed are known for being wonderful dorm parents. Students and interns on kitchen staff also love working alongside them!

Where are you from originally?
Roger: New Zealand.
Lana: Pennsylvania.
When did you join the Ethnos360 Bible Institute team?
August 2021.
What’s your role at Ethnos360 Bible Institute?
Roger: Head Cook
Lana: Head Cook
What is your favorite thing about serving at Ethnos360 Bible Institute?
Roger: It’s all about the food. Good food makes people happy, and I strive to make the best food possible. We are fueling the next generation of missionaries.
Lana: Getting to interact with the students, but most of all knowing that we are a part of the bigger picture of what the Lord is doing overseas and seeing so many lives being changed.
What is something the student body might not know about you?
Roger: I am a direct descendant of King Richard the Lionheart, leader of the Second Crusade.
Lana: I’m an MK from Bolivia and swam with piranhas, electric eels, and caiman frequently. Also, I have five adorable grandkids.
At what point in your life were you convinced to become involved with missions?
Roger: In 1997, I went to PNG to attend the Interface program with almost zero understanding of what a missionary was. It was an eye-opening experience that changed the direction of my life.
Lana: I grew up in the mission field so it is something I knew from early on that I wanted to be a part of, especially after seeing the need firsthand.
Where’s your favorite place to eat or thing to do here around Waukesha?
Roger: Pizza at Costco.
Lana: Mainstream would probably be my favorite place to eat. They have amazing burgers, and I love thrifting at all the Goodwill shops around.
What pastimes do you enjoy?
Lana: Playing games, kayaking, watching movies, spending time with family, and thrifting.
Roger: What Lana said, but I would include hiking and Minecraft.
Do you have a “hero of the faith” that you admire, and if so, what about them is inspiring?
Roger: Ted Albrecht, an Australian missionary we met during MTC in Australia. He was a missionary in PNG for decades, back when it was a pioneer field with little support. After sharing stories of hardship and endurance, he left us with a quote from Winston Churchill: “Never give up, never ever give up, never ever, ever give up.”
Lana: I would say Paul. His faith and trust in the Lord through his ministry and life encourages me to keep my eyes focused on the Lord, especially when life gets tough.
Who is your favorite author or musician?
Roger: J.R.R. Tolkien, big Lord of the Rings fan. Skillet and For King and Country.
Lana: My favorite musicians would be For King and Country and Jeremy Camp.
Where is your favorite place to spend time?
Roger: Anywhere I can feel the sand between my toes.
Lana: I am a homebody, so at home with my pup, Bandit, for sure.
