Preparing For a Life of Ministry – Shoulder the Responsibility

If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, it is your privilege and responsibility to be a minister of the gospel. No matter who you are, what your profession, how old you are, or what situation you find yourself in, you are responsible for the Great Commission.

Preparing for a life of ministry is for all believers, because ministry isn’t just for the “elite” Christian. It’s not reserved for the radical, religious people. It’s not exclusive to your pastor, your missionary friends, or your youth leader. Ministry is the responsibility of every believer, but it is your choice whether or not you will shoulder that responsibility.

It doesn’t necessarily mean going to seminary, becoming a youth pastor, or being an overseas missionary, although the Lord may lead you to one of these roles.

But in your workplace, in family situations, as you interact with your friends, when you attend church, wherever you are and whatever you are doing, you are a steward of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Faith of His Followers

When Jesus called Peter, James, John, and Andrew to be his disciples he said, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.”

Their response?

“So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything, and followed Him” (Luke 5:11).

They were not amazing men. They were common fishermen, with regular families. They were average Jews, just living their lives. They were normal, real people. They were people like us.  They didn’t set out to be great preachers and teachers and founders of the church. They simply believed and followed Jesus Christ.

“Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus” (Acts 4:13).

Their belief in Christ resulted in Him transforming their lives. The once regular men became incredible witnesses for the gospel of salvation. Jesus used them as vessels by which to proclaim good news to the world, and he wants to do the same with your life.

Ministry is Your Future

A life of  ministry awaits all who decide to follow Jesus.

Ministry is for those who learn over time that it is Christ alone who works in and through us.

It’s for those who come to embrace their weaknesses, knowing that their all is found in Christ.

It is for those who have engaged in knowing Him and have found Him to be more than they imagined.

It is for those who are willing to connect with His church, even with all the flaws they might see in it.

Ministry is for those who value discipleship—a relationship that was personally lived out by our Lord.

So take the necessary steps. Prepare for a life of ministry, no matter your age, profession, or situation.

Let the world recognize that you have been with Jesus.
