Course Description
This course covers the doctrine of man (Anthropology), sin (Hamartiology) and salvation (Soteriology). Anthropology includes the creation and fall of man, his material and immaterial parts (the body, soul, and spirit), his state of innocence, fall and depravity. Hamartiology looks at the origin of sin, the effect of sin and the means for victory over sin. The study of Soteriology will cover the meaning of substitution, redemption, reconciliation, propitiation, justification and adoption.
Course Rationale
The essence and purpose of man is defined in God’s Word alone. A biblical understanding of humanity and our sinful nature are foundational for understanding God’s gift of salvation. A true understanding and faithful proclamation of the Gospel of salvation are essential for eternal life. Galatians 1:8 says, “even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed.”
Course Goals
Upon completion of this course, the student will:
- Know the key Bible passages relating to all three doctrines.
- Understand the significance of being created in God’s image.
- Be able to define sin and be equipped to live victoriously over sin.
- Be equipped to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ in all of its fulness.
