Course Instructor

Your teacher, Mike Sullivan, has served at Ethnos360 Bible Institute since 1982 and brings over forty years of teaching experience to the classroom. Mike is a graduate of Grace Theological Seminary where he earned his Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies. He and his wife Jenny have been married for over fifty years and have one child.

Course Description and Goals

Prayer class is formatted to answer basic questions: What is prayer? Why should we pray? What do we pray? Why can we pray? Why don’t we pray? What hinders prayer? What promises are there regarding prayer? What isn’t prayer? How did Jesus pray and what did He teach His disciples? How do we mold prayer to capture the essence of scriptural transformation? What are central elements of prayer? How can prayer utilize the transforming power of the Word of God in lives?

Learning Objectives


  1. Through class sessions & homework assignments, students examine and discuss each question listed in the objective statement.
  2. Students are exposed to the doctrinal foundations of prayer.
  3. Students read and comment on basic texts on prayer in scripture.
  4. Students are challenged to cultivate a relationship oriented life of prayer.

Goals

Upon Completion of this course, students will have:


  1. Commented on major texts on prayer.
  2. Discussed the definition, purposes, and discovered biblical direction as to what to pray.
  3. Discussed doctrinal foundations for why we can pray.
  4. Discussed reasons we do not pray & described what isn’t prayer.
  5. Students will look at the life of Christ and the Lord’s prayer of Luke 11, and the highpriestly prayer of Christ in John 17.
  6. Students will read and comment on several readings on the subject of prayer.
